Throughout the Greek era of the series, Kratos is portrayed as a Spartan warrior who becomes known as the Ghost of Sparta after being deceived by his former mentor Ares into murdering his family. He later avenges their deaths and becomes the new God of War after killing Ares.
Loosely based on Greek mythology, Ghost of Sparta is set in ancient Greece with vengeance as its central motif. The player controls the protagonist Kratos, the God of War. Kratos is still haunted by the visions of his mortal past and decides to explore his origins.
Another title that came to the PSP was God of War: Ghost of Sparta, being a prequel to God of War II and that made us face the god of death himself, Thanatos. This title, as well as Chains of Olympus, can be found in the God of War: Origins Collection and God of War Saga.
Ready at Dawn solidified this reputation with two God of War spin-offs titled Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta.
Zeus killed Kratos in God of War 2 (which is why Kratos has to escape from Hell), so it's only natural that Kratos would want to return the favor. The two powerhouses face off in a heated battle between father and son. Kratos stabs Zeus with the Blade of Olympus, then Zeus uses the blade against Kratos.
