The HarmonyOS interface is based largely on the Android-based EMUI, but contains additional features. In addition to standard folders that require tapping on them to display their contents, folders can be enlarged to always show their contents without text labels directly on the home screen.

MIUI is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) version of Android, and serves as the basis for other operating systems created by Xiaomi: MIUI for POCO, MIUI Pad, MIUI Watch, and MIUI TV (PatchWall).

Huawei will not support Android apps on its HarmonyOS Next platform, which will launch a developer version in Q2 and a commercial version in Q4. The company aims to bolster its own software ecosystem.
