The most powerful MacBook Pro ever is here. With the blazing-fast M1 Pro or M1 Max chip — the first Apple silicon designed for pros — you get groundbreaking performance and amazing battery life.
While the M1 Max is undoubtedly the more powerful of Apple's two new chips, the M1 Pro is no slouch either, and it's debatable whether most people need the added power and features of the M1 Max.
M1 and M2 are far from obsolete. Unless you're jumping from a base M1 to something like an M3 Max, you're unlikely to feel a major performance gain moving from one Apple Silicon generation to another.
Is the M1 Max worth it? For most people, no. Unless you plan to use the graphics capability of the M1 Max, it won't do you much good in your day-to-day work activities. The MacBook Pro is likely overkill in general if your workflow doesn't move beyond your web browser and a handful of basic applications.
